Job Search Step Four: Interview preparation / Interview

Interview Preparation

Successful interviews are critical in landing the job you want. Australian people's style is welcome, open minded and easy to get along with. However, you should behave naturally and dress respectfully.

Preparation is essential to remaining calm under pressure and is the first step toward a successful interview. Here are some tips:

-     Know the exact place and time of the meeting and how to get there

-     Prepare papers for your interview, including extra copies of your resume, job reference lists, reference letters, legal pad for taking notes, and any other information that you may wish to have with you.

-     Know the interviewer's full name (including correct pronunciation) and his or her title.

 -     Organize the night before. Your interview clothing, briefcase and portfolio should all be prepared. Make time for a good night's rest.

-     Research the company through the Internet or library to learn pertinent facts such as annual sales revenue, principal lines of business and locations.

 -     Be prepared to ask questions of the hiring manager during the interview. Base these questions on your research to show that you've done your homework.

 -     Look your professional best. Wear business attire in neutral colours and be conservative in your use of fragrance, cosmetics and jewellery.

The Interview

·      Dress professionally, making sure they are business-like, clean, pressed and conservative; make sure your hair and nails trimmed and clean.

·      Expect situational questions and prepare for them ahead of time.

·      Prepare any questions you may have about the position.

·      The Interviewer is aware you are likely to be nervous; they do take this into consideration.

·      If more than one person is interviewing you, remember to address everyone who is interviewing you.
